Fishing Report
Week of October 5
October is off to an exciting start aboard Lucky Strike Fishing Charter! We’ve had a good variety of fish showing up on our offshore trips, with American red snapper, goliath grouper, and cobia providing some memorable action out in the Gulf.
American red snapper continue to be a major focus as we approach the end of the season. These fish have kept us busy throughout the summer, and we’re making the most of the remaining opportunities to target them. With October 25 marking the final day of the season, the clock is ticking for anyone hoping to get in on the red snapper fishing before it closes.
We’ve also had some exciting encounters with goliath grouper. These massive fish are known for their incredible strength and can turn an ordinary fishing trip into a serious battle in a matter of seconds. There’s nothing quite like watching someone experience the power of a goliath grouper for the first time!
Another highlight this week has been the cobia. They’re always a welcome sight offshore, and their appearance adds a little extra excitement to the day. Cobia are strong fighters, and you never know when one might show up while we’re working our offshore fishing spots.
As we move deeper into October, we’re keeping a close eye on the changing weather patterns and approaching cold fronts. Fall is always an interesting time for offshore fishing in Southwest Florida, and we’re looking forward to what the coming weeks will bring.
If you’re considering a Naples offshore fishing charter, there’s still time to get out and enjoy the red snapper bite before the season wraps up. Give us a call and let’s get you on the water!
Week of September 28
We’re getting to that time of year when things can start changing quickly offshore. The summer pattern is beginning to wind down, and with the first cold fronts of fall on the horizon, we’re looking forward to seeing what the change in weather brings to the fishing out of Naples.
Red grouper continue to be a big part of our trips. We’ve been spending plenty of time working the bottom and finding good grouper action along with a mixed bag of snapper. As we get farther into fall and start seeing cooler conditions, we’re excited to see how the grouper bite responds.
The yellowtail snapper have continued to keep us busy as well. When we get a school fired up behind the boat, the action can turn on quickly and make for some really fun fishing.
One of the more unique catches this week was a mutton snapper. We don’t catch them nearly as often as yellowtails or some of our other snapper species, so it’s always a cool surprise when one comes over the rail. You never know what you’re going to find fishing offshore in Southwest Florida, and catches like that are part of what makes every trip a little different.
We’re also officially into the final weeks of American red snapper season. October 25 is the last day we’re able to target them this season, so there aren’t many opportunities left. Red snapper have provided some great fishing this year, and we’re hoping to finish the season strong.
The first cold fronts are on the way, and we’re ready for a change after a long, hot summer. Cooler weather can start changing things offshore, and the next few weeks should be an interesting transition into our fall fishing.
If you’re looking to book a Naples offshore fishing charter, especially for American red snapper, now is the time. Once October 25 passes, we’ll shift our attention to the other species and opportunities that come with fall and winter fishing off Southwest Florida.
Week of September 21
Fall may officially be here, but it still feels a lot like summer on the water in Southwest Florida. Warm weather stuck around this week, and the offshore bite continued to produce a good mix of red grouper, yellowtail snapper, and American red snapper.
The red grouper fishing has been steady, giving us plenty of opportunities to put quality fish in the box. This is a species we target throughout the year on our longer offshore trips, and they continue to be an important part of our catches as we transition from summer into fall.
Yellowtail snapper have also kept us busy. They’ve been a great addition to the grouper trips and provide some fast action when we get a school fired up. Yellowtails are always a favorite on the boat—not only because they’re fun to catch, but because they’re excellent table fare.
We’re also taking advantage of the remaining American red snapper season. The fishing has continued to be productive, but time is running out. October 25 is the final day of the season for us, leaving only a few more weeks to get out and target them before the closure.
Even though the calendar says fall, the warm September weather has kept our offshore fishing patterns feeling more like summer. We’ll be watching for the first changes in weather and water temperatures over the coming weeks, which can start to shake things up and bring some new opportunities.
If you’re looking to book a Naples fishing charter, this is a great time of year to get offshore. And if American red snapper are on your list, make sure to get your trip scheduled before the October 25 season deadline.
